The following descriptions will include general tasks, specific events, and characteristics regarding each position!
Social Chairs (2)
Social Chairs are responsible for organizing the large social events held by JASS such as Ski Trip and Beach Trip as well as partaking in the planning of other small events. Social Chairs should be comfortable with planning events on the long-term scale due to the amount of planning needed for our trips. Certain aspects like deciding on budgets with the Treasurer, how large an event should be, and pointing out its crucial details are important aspects to this position. Good communication is essential in delegating smaller sub jobs to other cab members due to the large scale of these events. This is position suits those that enjoy long-term planning, proactive action, and wanting to help create some of the most memorable events of the year!
Service Chairs (2)
Service Chairs plan and run our volunteer events of the year. The Service Chairs not only work with the other JASS cabinet members, but they also work closely with the JACL, or Japanese American Citizen’s League, to help run their service events such as the annual Crab Feed. Other events that are led by the Service Chairs include the Relay for Life donation event, Remembrance Day, and Picnic Day. Planning for Picnic Day will be the Service Chairs longest project. This position suits those that have an eye for community service and networking!
Family Coordinators (2)
Family Coordinators run our amazing Family Program AND the Big/Little Program by placing participating members into selective families and Big/Little pairs. This position also runs family events and competitions throughout the year. Some of these events and activities include: Reveal Night, Study Hours, Family Picnics, and family point calculations. Keep in mind that Reveal Night is a larger and more difficult event to plan due to making pairings, determing the type of reveal etc. but is overall very rewarding. This position suits those that have a welcoming nature, able to socialize with old AND new members, and wish to plant the seeds of new lasting friendships in the club!
Sports Coordinator
The Sports Coordinator is in charge of planning out our more active events such as Broomball and Dodgeball. In addition, this position takes lead on the IM sports side of JASS. They will create teams from members that are interested and sign them up through the official Davis IM system. Other responsibilities include counting family points for other members that come to suppport their fellow JASSer's, providing needed sports equipment, and maintaining the JASS IM sports Facebook page. This position may cater to those interested in various sports and team events!
Historian
The Historian is responsible for capturing the many memories created in JASS every year by taking photos and videos at our events, meetings, trips, and more! They also help run our merch design competition as well as run our NinJASS game with the Secretary. At the end of the year, the Historian organizes our Banquet event where we recap the year together and say our goodbyes! This position suits those with an interest in photography and a want to capture the most memorable moments in JASS!
Publicity
Publicity's main role is to publicize JASS on campus and encourage students to join our club! Typically, publicity takes more importance at the beginning of the year and at the start of each quarter. They are responsible for advertising JASS at various events such as the UC Davis Involvement Fair and reserving tabling locations at the Memorial Union. In addition, they make fliers to hand out during events and make arrangements for JASS to come and advertise within Japanese classes! Publicity may be the first person that many people meet from JASS and is very important in leading many members to join. This position suits those that are passionate about JASS and showing that to new potential members!
Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for all the financial aspects within JASS. This role involves determining certain budgets for various events and advising other cabinet members on spending. They are also responsible for reimbursements and taking payments for membership, events, etc. This position suits those with an interest in economics, budgetting, or just money!
Secretary
The Secretary serves as a key part of communication for both cabinet and general members. This position is responsible for writing out weekly email newsletters that contain information on upcoming events and other logistics about the club. They are also responsible for creating or maintaining the JASS website. In addition, the Secretry also takes notes, or "meeting minutes" during cabinet meetings to allow other officers to see information that was agreed on. Finally, this position also runs our NinJASS game along with the Historian during Winter Quarter. This position suits those that are detail oriented, enjoy a flexible work schedule, or have an interest in more adminstrative work!
